Tip Tuesday :: Taming the Recipe Clutter

Wednesday, October 31, 2012

Dear NEAT Method,

I absolutely love to bake for the holidays! It really isn’t the holidays until the smell of freshly baked cookies and pies are filling my home. However, as much as I love to cook and bake… finding the actual recipe I need becomes a challenge. They all seem to be piled high and scattered in a mess. Any suggestions to help make my life easier??

Thanks so much!

We have all been there, so you are not alone! Saving recipes in an organized manner will not only relieve some of the "stress" associated with hosting for the holidays, but it will also allow more time to enjoy those festive cocktails! Here are just a few of our favorites ::

red recipe book, recipe book, organized kitchen, kitchen organization, recipe organization

If you tend to collect recipe clippings from magazines and papers, you can easily cut them out and organize in a book such as this one!

recipe card box, Rifle Paper Co box, Rifle Paper Co, Rifle Paper, recipe box, recipe organizer

Can’t even remember which book, magazine, or recipe box has the actual recipe you need? Make an index card for each "dish type" section (ie appetizers, desserts, main course). Make sure each index card includes the recipe title, the book or magazine issue it is in, and the page number. They should also be listed alphabetically. Now, regardless of if the recipe is located on an index card, in a recipe book or magazine – you will be able to keep them all organized!

We are just loving this Rifle Paper Co. box!

For those of you who are lucky enough to be attached to your IPad, we have two favorites applications for you: The Recipe Box and Evernote. Both are perfect for organizing recipes electronically – including magazine clippings and personal family recipes!
