Marissa's Baby Registry Must Haves

Our next NEAT girl to join the crew is expected to arrive in May! This one won't be running one of our cities (just yet ;)) but she will be Owner, Marissa Hagmeyer's, office assistant and first baby.

As Marissa anxiously awaits her arrival we have asked her to let us in on what she is doing to prepare and what the latest registry must haves are for this NEAT baby girl.

Hi Everyone! I couldn't be more excited to be expecting a baby girl in just a few weeks. The last 9 months have honestly not been too bad in the grand scheme of things - I guess I've had it easy when it comes to pregnancy. Registering on the other hand was a bit more of a challenge for me. First of all I struggle with the whole idea of asking your friends and family for gifts and secondly I wanted to try and avoid having our house be overtaken by baby equipment.

Overwhelmed by the whole process, I decided to just start by doing a ton of research. I sought a lot of advice from the other NEAT girls, my family and friends, and also read through nearly every page of Lucie's List and Babylist. With my findings in mind I came up with the following must haves ...

baby, registry, neat method, marissa hagmeyer, nuna pipa, uppababy, baby bjorn, ergobaby, freshly picked, the laundress

1. It goes without saying that you need a baby carrier but there are so many options out there. The Nuna Pipa felt right for us because it is super lightweight, has a built in sun canopy (FL baby must-have) and can be used without a base when we are traveling.

2. The I Am Tidy book, because who doesn't want to teach their kids about being NEAT from a young age. LOL!

3. A pretty pair of gold Freshly Picked moccasins. Okay these maybe weren't a must have but they sure are cute, right?

4. The Ergobaby 360 Carrier so that this little lady is able to hit the town with us.

5. I can't wait to do my first load of baby girl's laundry with The Laundress Baby Detergent. Hopefully it makes the 100th load a little more exciting as well ;).

6. NEAT's favorite velvet slimline hangers in baby size so that I can maximize space in the closet.

7. A montly bow subscription to Little Poppy Co. Okay these too are another just fun to have.

8. The BabyBjorn Travel Crib because we live far from family so being able to sleep comfortably on the go is going to be important for us.

9. A Sophie the Giraffe Teether seems to make it onto every Mom's registry these days. She apprently is an all in one development toy awakeing each of baby's 5 sense!

10. It also goes without saying that you will need a stroller. However, there are about 10,000 out there so this was a tough decision. We ultimately picked the UppaBaby Vista because it is lightweight, the bassinet can also be used for an infant sleeper, it can be converted to a double down the road, and becuase it was super easy to maneuver and fold up.

With all that being said, I would love to hear from you if there are items I am missing. Leave a note in the comments below if you have any advice for me!

A Look Into a New NEAT Baby's Room with a SPECIAL Announcement

Hi Everyone! It's Molly, NEAT's co-founder :) I am taking over the blog today to share with you the scoop on our new son, how we organized his room and an amazing partnership that I can't wait a minute more to share....

Molly Graves, Ryan Graves, Hudson Graves, Curren Graves, San Francisco, Uber, NEAT Method, Uber exec, behind the scenes, nursery, baby room, nursery ideas, nursery style, Oeuf crib, urban outfitters, baby clothes, tea clothing

I had the pleasure of meeting Jessica Alba and her team at Honest and we will be working together to show you how their products can help you live the NEAT life. The timing was perfect because I was nearly due to have a baby and their diapers alone are about the cutest things I have ever seen! Speaking of cute (I may be biased...), let me introduce you to the newest love of my life... Curren Hart Graves.

My husband Ryan is an avid surfer so Curren came from an iconic pro, Tom Curren. It also didn't hurt that it's origins were Gaelic - Ryan's family has an Irish background. The name Hart is my Grandmother's maiden name and my Mom's middle name. As you can imagine, it was a simple decision to create a room with an ocean theme so I stuck with black and white as well as every shade of blue I could find.

My favorite spot in the room is this corner. Truthfully, the entire space really stemmed from this rocking chair. This felt like something that could be in his room or a playroom forever instead of a glider that I would want to get rid of ASAP. I also have been dying (pun totally not intended but SO GOOD) to find a place to use these curtains from a favorite Etsy Shop of mine. I figured blue dip dyed fabric would go nicely in the ocean room. With my first son, Hudson, a day hasn't gone by that I haven't used my tried and true "it's not a diaper bag, diaper bag." With two, I realized I need to use something that is exceptionally functional. The Honest Diaper Bag is even, "Dad approved" according to Ryan. I love that the front zipper is a mini cooler for milk! It also has pockets but not so many that you forget where everything is which is key when you are looking for a snack for an upset toddler.

This circular shelf is a bit of a nod to the nautical theme and I also had it made from a shop I found on Etsy

Curren's changing station is really quite simple. I used the same dresser that I used in Hudson's room because it fits my favorite drawer organizers inside perfectly! I also put a HUGE fun bean bag in the room in hopes that Hudson will be interested in playing in here for a bit while I change his brother... wishful thinking...I know...

The art, once again is ocean themed but I just HAD to get this fun geometric mobile. Let's be honest - I totally got this for myself! Hopefully Curren likes it too!

Here's a close up of those drawer organizers in action. I love how perfectly they hold diapers and pajamas. The sectioned one holds all of my favorite baby products. Thanks to Honest, I have tried them all now and am loving their rash cream and bottom wash currently.

This little pocket organizer was 100% inspired by one that I saw at Land of Nod but it just so happens my Mom is amazing with a sewing machine so she made me one that was exactly what I wanted :)

Finally, did you think this NEAT girl was going to show you an entire room without showing you the closet?! I had California Closets come in a get this space set up how I wanted it and then, from there, I did a little organizing magic.

When prepping for a baby, it is so important to make the organization as SIMPLE as possible because in the heat of the moment (i.e mid diaper change) you don't have time to think. I used these linen baskets to make my life easier. I have one for extra wipes, extra diapers, next size up diapers, keepsakes, and clothes that are too small.

Of course, no closet is complete without the non-slip hangers. It also doesn't hurt that they are SO STINKING CUTE when they are this mini!

Back to diaper changing, and feeding for me! Hope you liked the tour of Curren's nursery. If you need me, I'll be answering emails at my 12 and 4 am feeds ;)

Behind the Scenes:: One NEAT Girl Shows us How to Make an Adorable Children's Room... for Two!

City living can be tough. The best way to learn how to do it right is from a NEAT girl. Lisa, our Bay Area NEAT girl certainly has her fair share of hurdles when in comes to city living. San Francisco has some small spaces with extra small closets but she has proven that she can work miracles when she set up a room for her two daughters who are one and four years old. Today we are sharing the proof that this adorable space is shared daily by two DARLING little girls (lucky!)

Here is an overall view of this adorable, modern space. Our eyes were immediately drawn to that pink closet in the corner so we had to ask and Lisa gave us the scoop! "Painting the inside of the closet was the very first thing I did to the apartment when we bought it. At that time, it was just Lulu in the room. It's such an odd little closet. I thoguht it would be fun for her to open the door and see a bright flash of pink."

The other thing we couldn't help but notice is her daughter's lofted bed with the small play area underneath - we needed a closer look...

Sure enough, Lisa had maximized the floor space by adding some great baskets to keep her girl's toys in one space. You can get similar baskets to the ones you see in this photo here, here and here

The best part of all, Lisa added this great fabric under the lofted bed to "hide" the toys if necessary. Of course, this doubles as the most fun kid's fort ever!

We also couldn't help but be curious about that dresser and how Lisa managed to have two girls share it so we asked her to send us a picture of the details. In this picture, you can see she used these great baskets from Babies R' Us (which they don't carry anymore - BOO!) If you are considering having a shared room for your children, Lisa highly recommends having baskets even in the shelves to that is clear whose belongings are whose.

Inside the drawers, Lisa used adjustable drawer dividers so that the girl's clothes chould be perfectly compartmentalized. Since Bee (the baby) needs her clothes changed more often, her clothes can be found here. Whereas, Lulu (big sis) has most of her clothes hanging in the closet.

Speaking of the closet.... Lisa maximized this space by hanging necessary pint-sized clothing up top, but then purchasing this cubed storage for below. She anchored it to the wall in preparation for little climbers and added the cute baskets from Land of Nod.

Since we had an expert like Lisa available to us, we asked, "What was your favorite part about this project?"

"I had full reign.  Rather I should say I "took" full reign and didn't ask for any input.  I try to be as democratic as possible in the other areas of our home, but I went rogue with this room.  It was really fun to have that kind of control.
I also loved the subtle impact the paint made.  We painted the walls a really pale grey and it made a huge difference.  I read on Emily Henderson's blog that small rooms benefit from color.   I was sold when I read that."

We also asked Lisa what the hardest part was... you'll be surprised to see her answer!
"Stopping myself.  Let's get real.  It's a small room that requires a lot of functionality.  I had more ideas, but the room would have been insane.  I became obsessed with a few IG accounts of Swedish moms/interior designers/graphic designers.  The black and white cartoon rabbit is a print by Mini Willa.  The ABC print above Lulu's loft is by Tellkiddo.  I have carts full all over the internet that will never be purchased...sigh.

I did manage to get away with two rugs though!  I've always loved the look of layered rugs.  My husband told me I had to stop after that... I guess I didn't have TOTAL control afterall..."

We love your space Lisa, and we are sure the girls will have many memories in that perfectly NEAT room!

A Nursery fit for a queen!

While we talk about how to organize a nursery quite frequently, we realized that in previous posts we missed a very important step in the nursery planning process. We can talk all day long about where to place each little onesie and how to make sure the essentials are within arms reach, but when it comes to selecting the best nursery furniture we like to leave that up to the experts. Therefore, we were thrilled when AFK Furniture asked if they could share a few tips with us about selecting the most organizing friendly furniture. Here's what they had to say...

NM :: We are excited to hear your tips so lets dive right in. What are the top 3 things to consider when buying nursery furniture?

AFK :: We always recommend you look for mulitfunctional pieces that transition well as the child grows. We also say that no nursery is complete with out some open shelving for books and we love to recommend adding a beautiful crib skirt if you need to use under the crib for additional storage.

NM :: That all makes perfect sense to us! Those pieces are each so pretty on their own we are dying to see pictures of a whole room set up with AFK Furniture.

AFK :: Well we happen to have a few of those :). Here is Mariah Carey's nursery - we think it turned out pretty adorable!

afk furniture, nursery furniture, nursery design, Mariah Carey's Nursery

NM :: You can say that again! Since we happen to love watching design trends, are there any nursery color palettes that are really popular right now?

AFK :: We are seeing gender neutrality become a huge trend. Additionally, we are seeing opulent grandeur become a trend for 2016, a nod to historical references, think classic periods. This glamorous shift calls for metallic notes in contemporary interiors. Lastly, a major color trend more consistent with the past few years, is white on white. This is a simple pairing, but exudes serenity in the nursery.

afk furniture, nursery furniture, nursery design, nursery themes, white nursery, gender neutral

NM :: Oh yes we have noticed that a lot of our Interior Designer partners are choosing more neutral themes and we love it! Is there anything else you think we should know?

AFK :: Our lead designer Gail Reiter Sedigh said it best, “Our goal is simple: We strive to create a room that is beautiful, functional, safe and unique for your child.” From concept to completion, we’ll stand by your side to make sure all aspects of the project meet our extremely high standards.

Well it sounds like we share many of the same goals :). Thank you for your insight - we look forward to working with you to make a nursery NEAT very soon!

A Client Tells All :: The NEATest Kid's Room on the Block

Every time we look at this image, our jaws drop. Who wouldn't love this room as a child (or as an adult!?) Our NEAT organizer in Scottsdale, Mika had the pleasure of organizing this space but the icing on the cake was family who lives in the home is absolutely spectacular! Her client, Katie was kind enough to tell us a little bit about what it was like to work with the NEAT team. Have you been thinking of using NEAT but not sure what to expect? This client tells all!

NM:: Hi Katie! Thank you so much for speaking to us about working with NEAT Method. Let's jump right in! After you hired Mika and her team to come, what surprised you the most about the experience?

Katie:: I think initally I was surprised that someone could be more organized than me! Not only was I surprised but BLOWN AWAY! It probably doesn't take much to impress a messy disorganized person...but for Mika to take my Type A, daily To-Do list making, everything has a spot, vacuum line loving life and truly PERFECT that has a gift. And to top it off, it is pretty and easily maintainable!!! Did I mention... SO PRETTY?! I am in organizational HEAVEN at home!

** In this photo, one of Mika's team members preps the closet. It's so important to get your hands on the whole space in order to ensure it is COMPLETELY organized!

NM::Why was it important to you to get your girl's space organized?

Katie :: Having 2 girls (3rd on the way) we have LOTS of clothes! It is so nice to open a drawer and SEE everything! I love having everything labeled so my 6 year old can read and help put things away! We can find hair accessories and a favorite pink shirt in a cinch on a busy school morning! Having Mika come in the first day of school and get me situated was a lifesaver! My favorite part is my play room!!! As most parents would agree the playroom is my nemesis! Mika has now come through 3 times and helped set up a system that is easy to clean up, easy to see the toys and keeps my anxiety at ease! I LOVE IT!

Katie:: Well...considering I have already told ALL my friends about it that would be a big YES! I even went as far as blasting an email out to all Major league Baseball wives! I only pass on things I am really a true believer of and after using Mika in AZ and the SF team to unpack and organize our bay area rental home I am a HUGE believer in the Neat Method truly making my life easier and more efficient! Mad love to Mika and the rockstars at NEAT METHOD!
