The NEATest Colorado Laundry & Mudroom

Mudrooms and Laundry Rooms tend to be a place where everyone just plops their school backpacks, shoes, gear, etc. and then go about their day. If you live in Colorado, like our girl Allo Perry, your mudroom most likely looks like a small REI showroom, but not if you've had Allo over to organize. Here is a sneak peak at one of her recent projects, as well as, her tips on keeping even one of the most cluttered spaces in your home tidy!

Outdoor Gear :: Denverites tend to have a lot more outdoor gear than most cities due to the 300 days of sunshine and beautiful mountains. Bins are a perfect solution for storing all your ‘in house’ gear. Keep those skis, fishing rods and bikes in the garage. A few of our go-to categories for labeling bins include 'Camp & Hike', 'Sun & Rain', 'Snow & Ski'!

Winter Accessories :: Accessories sound like they would be small and minimal right? Well, this is not the case for enduring Colorado Winters. Hats, gloves, scarfs, leg warmers, neck warmers, goggles - we name it - you probably have it. Be sure to break down your winter accessories into multiple storage bins to ease the process of finding those perfect mittens to compliment your favorite parka.

Shoes/Boots :: Ski boots, soccer cleats, hiking shoes, Chacos, fly fishing boots, snow boots - the list is never ending for keeping those Colorado feet satisfied. Rotating shoes by season are a must for those living in the Mile High City. Snow is always possible, but when June rolls around it’s time for those bulky Sorels to take a rest out of sight.

Cleaning Supplies :: Cleaning is never fun, so you might as well make the entire process go as quick as possible. This can only happen if each of your cleaning supplies are organized by type and you can find exactly what you are looking for when you need it. Be sure to utilize the dreadful and awkward under the sink area for all your no so favorite items! Floor, Bathroom & Kitchen are great ways to categorize all those cleaning supplies.

Dog/Pet :: The Denver Ear just ranked Denver as one of the most Dog Friendly Cities in America and we believe it! Although dog hair is not necessarily NEAT, we do love our furry friends. Everyone feels like their pet is a member of their family so why shouldn’t they have their own bin?! Dog bins can hold leashes, poop bags, Ruffwear, toys and brushes. Honey, Baxter, Bentley, Mo Mo, The Dude, Homer, Jack and Bell are just some of our Denver client’s furry friends who are also now living the NEAT life. Don’t forget to bring your pup next time you head out to one of these Dog Friendly Breweries!

I hope these quick tips help you keep NEAT whether you are a fellow Coloradoan or just in need of a NEAT fix in your Laundry or Mudroom.

xx,
Allo ‘Organizing a Mile High’ Piller

Tip Tuesday:: Products From Our Pottery Barn Partnership

Many of you have emailed asking for us to give you the details on all of the products we used to create that drool worthy laundry room. Well, look no further!

First up, let's focus on the items that are in the cabinet! The baskets and towels are both from Pottery Barn (Surprise! Surprise!) Truly though, we loved the baskets because they were really sturdy! They truly felt like they would last a lifetime.

This whole system hanging on the wall is the Gabrielle Laundry Set. Unfortunately, those adorable kids overalls are not included. The good news is, both the drying rack and shelving unit can be taken off of the pegs and used elsewhere. It truly is a three-in-one piece! The bad news is, the "Less is More" sign is no longer available - boo! How adorable is the "Keep the Change" sign with the jar attached? We couldn't help but order this off of Etsy to complete the look!

This little nook was a favorite corner of ours! The tray was one of the items that every NEAT girl wanted to take home! The marble pieces would be good to use in a laundry room or a bathroom and made the space feel really clean. Speaking of clean, we have been suckers for a wooden brush lately and couldn't help but purchase this one for the shoot!

Now let's talk about those Jars!! They added such a beautiful touch to the space and ended up being able to hold basically anything that was necessary in a laundry room. After we added these wooden tags and stainless steel scoops, the room was ready for use!

Do you think it is impossible to make laundry fun? Honestly, we did too until we put this mason jar with a spout in the room for liquid detergent. We will never look at an ugly detergent bottle again! More brushes in this image as well... are you starting to believe us when we say we have a wooden brush obsession?

Finally, no laundry room is complete without a hamper. This one happens to also hang on the Gabrielle Set which is nice but it can also stand alone. Our last little secret to make your laundry space more enjoyable is to add an amazing rug. We fell in love with this one because it was seriously so beautiful in person. This is one of those that would get a five star review in our book!

Now that we have given you all of our secrets, it's time to air your dirty laundry!

Our favorite part of the process was taking a ACTUAL CLIENT's laundry room and converting it into a space that was fun to be in. Laundry... fun??? We say, "YES!" when you add all of the fun products that Pottery Barn has to offer!

NEAT is Getting Dirty

Whether you're visiting your weekend home in Tahoe, or living the daily grind of life in the snow, winter brings a serious amount of accessories. Between hats, earmuffs, gloves, mittens, boots, scarves, and jackets your home can become quite a mess if you don’t have a plan for the winter excess. Today we are having some serious mudroom envy. Check out these well-kept spaces that have us singing the praises of winter instead of counting down the days ‘til spring.

This first one fulfills our life long dream of having a sliding ladder in our home...(please excuse the weird hanging hat)

We love how this mudroom plays double duty for the mail center too!

If you have pets or live in a muddy area... this next one is for you! Check out the adorable labels for the baskets!

For this last one, we brought it back to reality. Most of us don't have enough space to designate a room for our outerwear. This option shows how low hanging spaces for children's items can still work within the home.

Ready for a mudroom makeover? We hope you find yourself bringing in the New Year with a glass of bubbly and inspired to live the NEAT life in 2013. We are excited to share our latest ideas and inspirations with you!

How to Be NEAT's Man

Hello lovely NEATers!

It is our pleasure to introduce you to the newest love of our lives, Brett. The three of us may be technically spoken for, but this guy has won over our hearts! Not only is he a University of California Berkeley grad, extremely strong, and has a net worth of $400,000….BUT he can fold towels!! And not just fold, tri-fold.

We were lucky enough to pay Brett a visit this week and meet Pieter Abbeel’s team behind the robotic genius magic!

Berkeley, Molly Graves, Heather Gilligan, Heather Byrne, Robot, Robotics, folding a towel

So here is a lil background bio on our friend Brett and how he came to call the UC Berkeley College of Engineering his home:

Willow Garage is a robotics research lab devoted to developing and advancing hardware and open source software for personal robotics applications. They granted only 11 universities around the world a FREE PR2 (Personal Robot 2). With an open source software application, these PR2s help advance the progress in robotic technology…and we all know we could use a personal robo in our everyday lives!

Brett technically stands for the “Berkeley Robot for the Elimination of Tedious Tasks.”

AND folding towels is one of those tedious tasks!

Robot, Berkeley, Robotics, folding a towel

AND without further ado...

Our favorite part of the this entire robo folding shindig is Brett's impressive conclusion with “I hope I live up to NEAT Method’s standards.”

And by golly, he sure did!!

Molly Graves, Heather Byrne, Heather Gilligan, Robot, Robotics, Berkeley, Mr. Roboto, California, college, nerd, folding a towel

Ta Dah!

Algebra, hard math, scientific equations, equations, white board, dry erase board, Berkeley, technology

After *fully* undestanding the mathematics behind how Brett independently folds a towel, we took a stab at how to fold a shirt. Here is just a snapshot of the Method to *our* folding madness!

And what is next on Brett’s “To Do” list you ask?  Learning how to use the washer and dryer, and also serve sushi for dinner.

Molly Graves, Heather Byrne, Heather Gilligan, Robot, Robotics, Berkeley, Mr. Roboto, California, college, nerd, folding a towel

Many many thanks to the brains at UC Berkeley behind Brett for letting us crash their lab for the day! We will back to visit as soon as he can serve us a glass of wine!

PS :: You can order your own personal handyman boyfriend here!
