We want to welcome Holly Holt of Potomac, Maryland to the NEAT team. We are thrilled to have her. Let’s find out more about what makes her so NEAT.
NM : Why do you want to run NEAT in your city?
HH : The DMV (recognized acronym for DC, Maryland & Virginia) is a dynamic and fast-paced area. I want to bring function and organization into the homes of people who know what they want/need but don’t have the time to follow through with the projects that make a house a home.
NM : What did you do before NEAT?
HH : Before NEAT I was a Regional Director of K12 Implementation at EVERFI where I was responsible for bringing free online critical skills resources to schools throughout the US and Canada. Before that I was a Technology Integration Specialist at Georgetown Day School where I taught students PreK-5th grades.
NM : What makes your city unique?
HH : Our Nation’s Capital is the epicenter of this area. The DMV encompasses DC where you meet people who are born and raised locals and transplants from all around the world. When I first moved here and worked on The Hill, it was like an extension of college. People were from all over the country/world and traveled home for the holidays. Almost 30 years later I still have many of the friends I made that first year in the DMV and get to watch their children grow and head out into the world.
DC is a small big city and the suburbs reflect that hometown feel. Within a one hour radius you have access to free museums, monuments, big city sporting events & concerts, the Chesapeake Bay, the ocean, mountains for skiing and hiking and miles and miles of trails connecting it all together.
NM : How long have you lived in your city?
HH : I moved from New Hampshire to DC in 1994 after graduating from undergrad. I come from a very large family - 8 kids, lots of Aunts, Uncles and Cousins that are all still in NH, ME and MA. I drive or fly up to New England 4-5 times a year. I spent decades working in DC - lived in Northern VA for 5 yrs and then when I got married in 2000 I moved in with my husband in the house he grew up in (there are 6 kids in his family!). We continue to renovate the family home in Berwyn Heights and enjoy all the amenities provided by living just a few miles from the University of Maryland.
NM : What are your favorite places to eat in your city?
HH : Potomac: MoCo’s Founding Farmers. Bethesda: True Food Kitchen, Raku, Luke’s Lobster, Woodmont Grill. DC: Farmers & Distillers, FFB, Matchbox, anywhere on the water, Baked & Wired, South Block, Sovereign, RPM. Annapolis: Chart House, Blackwall Hitch, Boatyard Bar & Grill, O’Briens, Cantlers, Pussers
NM : What do you think is going to be your favorite part of running NEAT in your city?
HH : I have spent the last 29 years in the DMV building friendships, getting married and expanding my already large family, and networking in my professional life on Capitol Hill, Georgetown Day School & the Independent school system of the DMV and working at an Ed Tech company in Georgetown. Running NEAT will allow me to give back to the community and work with people I’ve met over the years in a way that can improve their daily lives.
NM : What can people expect when they hire you to organize their home?
HH : Allowing me to come into your home and organize a space is such a privilege. I will work tirelessly to make your home more functional and give you back time into your daily life. I tackle each day with high energy and positivity.
NM : What is your favorite organizing product?
HH : BINS! From tiny bins in your vanity drawer for mascara and concealer to slightly larger ones in your kitchen cabinets to large ones in your closets. Grouping products make your life so seamless.
NM : Do you have any hidden talents that we should know about?
HH : Years ago, when I was teaching at GDS, one of the 1st grade teachers taught the students and fellow faculty how to quilt. I have made many baby blankets that are now at colleges around the east coast. I also love to whip up a super fabulous party on a budget. Using whatever the homeowners have on hand, I have created special occasions for holidays and life events. I considered starting an event company - Ballin on a Budget - because I love to throw a party and make an ordinary day special.
