3 Ways to Use a Trunk for Effective Storage

Thursday, September 28, 2023

Whether you just inherited a vintage piece or are seeking additional storage options in your home, a Trunk is a great way to hide storage in plain sight. Start by selecting a location for the Trunk. It can be at the end of a bed, tucked against an empty wall, or within a closet. Next, choose a Trunk that complements the decor in your home. We love Petite Keep because they offer an elevated and quality design in two sizes. The customizable interior options don't hurt either...

Next it's time to fill your Trunk! Our favorite categories to organize within a Trunk include heirloom items that won't be used daily, while still providing easy access to your cherished memories.

1. Baby Keepsakes

Start your little one off on the right foot by protecting their precious things in one dedicated location. From baby blankets to booties to that favorite stuffed bunny - just make sure to leave room for more as they grow. Smaller items like rattles and bracelets can be further corralled in small Oxford Bins to keep them from rolling around inside. Lastly, be sure to remove any acidic materials such as vinyl and PVC plastics that can damage keepsakes over time.

2. Adult Keepsakes

The easiest way to keep memorabilia in check is to provide boundaries for the amount each member of your family can keep. This is especially important with adults, since we have accumulated items over a longer period of time. Depending on the size, one Trunk per family member should be plenty of space. Once it's full, it's time to edit and pare down to those items that matter most.

3. Heirloom Quilts

There's nothing more precious than a quilt or blanket that has been thoughtfully sourced or handed down from a loved one. Daily use for handmade items is typically discouraged so we recommend storing them carefully. First, fold each blanket to the height of your Trunk. Then, depending on how fragile they are, you may want to place them in individual acid-free cotton or muslin bags before arranging them upright in a single row. This prevents you from digging through a stack to find what you're looking for.
