5 Easy Ways to Clean-Up Your Cleaning Supplies

Friday, February 21, 2025

Feeling the urge to deep clean and refresh your space? Before you dive into your spring cleaning checklist, it might be a good time to organize your cleaning supplies. Because nothing kills cleaning motivation faster than having to hunt down that one spray bottle hiding in the back of a cabinet. We put together a list of different ways to create order before the deep cleaning bug hits, whether you're working with a tiny apartment or a spacious home.

1. A Simple Caddy

Let's start with the simplest and most portable solution - the cleaning caddy. Think of it as your cleaning command center on the go. Store your most-used supplies here: all-purpose cleaner, glass cleaner, microfiber cloths, gloves, etc. The beauty of a caddy? You can tuck it away in any closet or cabinet, then grab and go when it's time to tackle those bathroom mirrors or kitchen counters.

2. Under the Kitchen Sink

The space under your kitchen sink is prime real estate for cleaning supplies, but it can get cluttered really quickly. The secret? Take really precise measurements and implement products that take advantage of every square inch. We suggest drawing out the space and recording measurements on both sides of the plumbing. If space is limited, stack bins or modular drawers to maximize vertical space.

3. The Cleaning Supply Closet

If you have a spare closet, it can be the perfect spot for a cleaning supply hub. Organize cleaners by type and arrange based on frequency of use: daily cleaners at eye level, specialty products above, and bulky items like vacuum attachments below. Use easy-wipe bins to corral categories, and always label everything (trust us on this one).

4. Laundry Room

Your laundry room isn't just for detergent and dryer sheets. Those shelves and cabinets can pull double duty as cleaning supply storage. Designate a shelf or two for cleaners, adding hooks for brooms and mops if space allows and suddenly you've got a multi-functional space that makes sense. Corral like-items together. For example, all your floor cleaning supplies in one bin and all surface cleaners in another.

5. Behind A Closet Door

Maxed-out on space everywhere else? A sturdy over the door solution is one of our favorite ways to add storage for cleaning supplies. You can customize the attachments with baskets and hooks to corral everything from solutions to dusters. It works on any swinging door and tucks clutter out of site while providing easy access to essentials.

Quick Tips for Any Space:

  • Don’t bother making space for products you no longer use. Give them away or dispose of them safely

  • Always store cleaning supplies out of reach of children and pets. Add latches to lower cabinets if necessary.

  • Sort cleaners into categories that match your cleaning routine. Some common systems include sorting by room (kitchen, bathroom) or by task (dusting, floors).

  • Label everything, even if you think you'll remember what goes where. This alleviates confusion with other household members.

The best storage solution is one that works with your space and cleaning routine, so get custom with it. Start with these ideas, then adjust to fit your home and habits. The goal isn't perfection, it's creating a system that makes cleaning just a little bit easier. And we could all use that in our lives.
