Organizer Spotlight: Lauren Rosenthal

When you've lived in a home for over four decades, every corner holds memories. For one Lafayette homeowner, her narrow galley kitchen had been the heart of countless family gatherings and daily routines since 1982. While she loved her space, she was ready for an update that would preserve its charm while bringing new functionality to her daily life.

"The key was respecting the history of this kitchen while helping our client embrace new possibilities," says Lauren Rosenthal, professional home organizer at NEAT Method East Bay. "Working alongside interior designer, Teresa Fadelli of Gatherhouse, we transformed this galley kitchen into a bright, beachy space that feels both fresh and familiar."

The renovation opened the kitchen to the living area, but the real magic happened in the details. "Organization isn't just about making things look pretty – it's about creating systems that work for real life," Rosenthal explains. "For example, we created a dedicated coffee station with clever storage underneath using small grid baskets that fit the unique space perfectly."

With grandchildren frequently visiting, the team designed kid-friendly zones that make everyone feel at home. "One of my favorite features is the grandkid snack drawer," shares Rosenthal. "It's at the perfect height for little hands to grab treats safely and independently."

The team carefully chose products that would blend style with function. Bone-colored perforated baskets complement the white cabinetry, while acacia drawer dividers create natural separations for teas, linens, and snacks. "Our client fell in love with the Glass Jars with acacia lids," Rosenthal notes. "They're so practical but beautiful enough to display on open shelving as decor."

Creating new systems in a long-established space presented unique challenges. The solution? "We focused on optimizing each area with custom products that would make sense for how she uses her kitchen today," says Rosenthal. "Large Grid Baskets below store everyday dinner prep items, while baking supplies and backup items live in Rattan Baskets above, keeping the look light and natural."

The result is a kitchen that honors its past while embracing modern functionality. What once felt overwhelming after construction has become a joy to use. Now this Lafayette homeowner has a space that works beautifully for both daily life and family gatherings – proving that sometimes the best changes preserve what matters most while making room for new possibilities.
