We've been talking a lot about mindful living this year, and with Easter approaching, it got us thinking - what if we honored spring's renewal by actually renewing our approach? As nature comes back to life, our celebrations can reflect that same spirit without filling landfills (or stuffing our storage closets).
Here's how we're embracing the joy of Easter with a lighter, more mindful touch:
Opt for Consumable Gifts
Think beyond chocolate. Celebrate warmer weather and outdoor play, without the sugar-high or long-term storage commitment:
-
Bubbles - Perfect for those first warm days when kids can run around outside
-
Sidewalk chalk - Encourages outdoor creativity (and washes away with the next rain)
-
Bath bombs - Because who doesn't love a little self-care moment?
-
Playdough or Slime - Keeps little hands busy and eventually disappears or dries out
Go All Natural
Skip supermarket egg dying kits with ingredients you can't pronounce. Your kitchen may already have exactly what you need:
-
Turmeric - Creates the most gorgeous yellow eggs (though maybe wear gloves unless you want yellow fingertips for days!)
-
Onion Skins - Makes a really beautiful shade of rusty brown
-
Red Cabbage - Dreamy blue eggs (pictured below)
The best part? These natural dyes are gentler on little hands and the environment.

Use Your Dyed Eggs
If the cost of eggs has you considering skipping the dying this year, you aren't alone! But with a little preparation, you can make sure nothing goes to waste.
-
Adopt a new tradition with “Egg Wars”. Grab an egg and a partner. Then, agree on the narrow or wide end of the egg. On the count of three, tap them together. Whichever egg doesn’t crack, is the winner! Lastly, peel and eat the cracked eggs when you're done.
-
Make a batch of deviled eggs or egg salad sandwiches for a post-Easter brunch
-
Peel a few to add to next week's lunch box
-
Compost the shells (plant based dyes only) if you're into that sort of thing - plants love the calcium.
Repurpose What You Already Have
Before buying anything new, shop your own home:
-
Easter Basket - That beautiful Cane Basket sitting on your bookshelf can double as the perfect Easter basket, then go right back on display the following day.
-
Candy Display - Kitchen Canisters filled with chocolate eggs or pastel candies make instant tabletop decor.

The beauty of a more mindful Easter isn't just about making sustainable choices or saving storage space (even though those are nice perks). It's really about focusing on creating experiences rather than accumulating stuff, which feels pretty aligned with the spirit of the season.
Wishing you a joyful (and clutter-free) spring celebration!
xx,
