Cooking Up Order: A Katy, Texas Kitchen Transformation

Thursday, October 3, 2024

In the heart of Katy, Texas, a kitchen transformation was about to unfold. But this wasn't just any ordinary organizing project. As Hurricane Beryl swept through the Greater Houston area, leaving a trail of power outages in its wake, one family's home became an unexpected haven.

Enter Lindsay Plum and the NEAT Method Katy team, ready to tackle a kitchen that was equal parts moving boxes and hurricane relief center. Their client? A culinary enthusiast with roots deep in the restaurant business and a penchant for entertaining. The challenge? Creating a kitchen that could keep up with her passion for cooking while accommodating unexpected guests.

"Our client comes from a family of restaurant owners and previously owned a catering business," Lindsay explains. "Cooking is very important to her, so setting up an easily accessible space for appliances was extremely important."

But how do you organize a kitchen when it's not just feeding a family of three (plus two furry friends), but also housing neighbors left powerless by the storm? With creativity and precision, it turns out.

The NEAT team's solution was nothing short of culinary genius. They transformed a tall, floor-to-ceiling cabinet into an appliance paradise. "We prioritized the more frequently used appliances and gadgets by placing them on easy to reach shelves," Hannah shares. "Less frequently used appliances went higher up while the heaviest of appliances stayed closer to the bottom."

But the pièce de résistance? A custom spice drawer that would make any chef swoon.

"The client asked us to create a solution for her vast collection of spices," Lindsay recounts. "Because she cooks at home so often, the pantry was too far away to be the primary location for spices. She wanted them close to the stove for easy access."

Their solution? A Rev-A-Shelf spice drawer insert, cut to fit the drawer perfectly, housing over 50 NEAT Method Spice Jars in sleek black. "Not only did it meet the functional needs and the request of our client, but it was visually stunning!" Lindsay beams.

This project, however, was about more than just creating an organized space. It was about building a kitchen that could weather any storm – literal or figurative. As the family opened their doors to neighbors in need, their newly organized kitchen became a symbol of community resilience.

"It was an amazing thing to watch and witness," Lindsay reflects. "It made the work we were able to do for our client feel that much more special and impactful."

In the end, this Katy kitchen stands as a testament to the power of organization, the strength of community, and the magic that happens when the NEAT Katy team comes together. It's a space where spices are always within reach, appliances are at the ready, and there's always room for one more at the table – come rain or shine.
